Integration & Benefits

The broad range of available content has been specifically selected to complement existing teaching of a variety of different subjects. Additionally, we have drawn upon our years of experience in online learning technologies to ensure this content can be integrated into existing learning environments, or licensed via the HLSN platform for student access.

This forward-thinking solution provides a wealth of benefits to the university, including:

A flipped classroom mode of learning – enabling a more enriched teaching experience for lecturers

Allowing learners to grasp core knowledge at their own pace, in a challenging but engaging way

Reducing the reliance on teaching time and the traditional text book, allowing for larger cohort sizes to be supported by the same number of staff

An intelligent platform, which is able to produce valuable data on student participation, understanding and progress

Available Content

NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

This engrossing pillar of modules explores the neurological system through a series of disorders. The oral presentation related to the disorder is the launch pad to explore the structural, biochemical and electrical function of the brain, spinal cord and neurons.

HEAD & NECK

The Head and Neck pillar contains modules exploring conditions and diseases of the oral cavity and surrounding areas. Students are asked to consider the clinical presentation before being led through the related anatomy, physiology, histology, microbiology and pathophysiology.

IMMUNOLOGY

The very nature of the immune system makes an exciting challenge for students to understand the structures, processes and functions involved. The diseases depicted in this series of modules include Sjögren’s Syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythematous and HIV.

CARDIOVASCULAR

This set of modules covers of a range of conditions affecting the cardiovascular system, from hypertension and coronary artery disease to myocardial infarction and infective endocarditis.

PULMONARY

This group of modules covers a range of disorders that affect lung function, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis and upper respiratory tract infections.

HEPATIC

These modules explore how environmental factors such as alcohol, viruses and diet can lead to liver disease. They cover the anatomy and pathology of the liver, explaining how these influence the symptoms, diagnosis and interprofessional management of a range of liver conditions.

ENDOCRINE

These modules demonstrate the way the endocrine system regulates the other systems of the body by exploring a series of pathological disease such as diabetes, Addison’s disease and hypothyroidism.

GASTROINTESTINAL

This group of modules focusses on pathological conditions associated with the gastrointestinal system. This includes digestive abnormalities – ranging from difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) to problems absorbing nutrients (malabsorption).

RENAL

This collection of modules thoroughly explores the kidneys, their functions and possible complications. Modules on chronic kidney disease and dialysis perfectly complement each other in enhancing the students understanding of kidney function, and how this relates to other conditions.

MUSCULOSKELETAL

This collection of modules covers musculoskeletal disorders such as Osteomyelitis, Rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoporosis with the emphasis on their significance in dental care.

HAEMATOLOGY

The modules within this pillar play an important role in improving the students’ knowledge of the early signs and symptoms of the diseases featured, including Leukaemia and Lymphomas.
